electric shock feeling in toe

I get this painful electric shock feeling in my second toe on my right foot. It is very painful and last for maybe 30 sec. to a minute. Is it a nerve from my back or neck? I've received two cortione shots before but they wear off. please help

Hi,
I am assuming you received the cortisone shots in your foot. This feeling is probably a local nerve irritation, not originating from the back and certainly not from the neck.
My first thought would be a neuroma.
If the diagnosis is neuroma, there are other treatments available besides cortisone injections. The rule of thumb for cortisone injections for any musculo-skeletal problem is no more than three in the same area in a twelve month period; so I am not sure a third injection is going to do you much good.

I have been getting an electrical shock sensation that goes to my second toe on my left foot. It happens at random times and lasts no more than 30 seconds. This sensation may happen 3-4 times in one day or I may go a few days before I have another episode.

Pain in toe and leg
by: Barbara

I have been hurting in my knee and it's hard to get up from stiffness and PAIN but yesterday I noticed pain in my big toe. Every time I put my foot down it's a shooting pain and feels like electricity shooting up my foot and leg. Does anyone know why? Am I going to be crippled?

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Shooting pain can be from a number of sources. If the pain persists beyond a day or so, you should see a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis.

Shocking pain in feet & toes
by: Ida Harper

I have this issue since 2009, I am not diabetic, however I have neuropathy. I found out that there are different kinds of neuropathy other than diabetic. Neuropathy is nerve damage. Read articles posted on the net about different meds that can cause nerve pain. My situations was ignored for years by doctors because I am not diabetic. Now that I have done research on the meds that I take for high blood pressure, i will be discussing options with my PC.

Shocks in toes
by: Mary

My 'shocking toes' just started 5 days ago. I sat at the table for several hous, doing computer work. The shocks started that night. I tried a TENS unit, which may have helped, but as soon as I took it off, the shocks started again. By today, it is just short shocks that stop if I press in my toe. It is the third toe on my left foot only. It really is quite painful, but it helps to know I am not alone in this phenomenon. No neuropathy and no diabetes that I know of. Just weird.

Painful shock to toes
by: Julie P

I also get a very painful electric shock to my 2nd toe on my right foot. I've had this for several years. After a year or so i stars tarted to feel a pain like it on my big toe. I recently found out I have flat feet as well. I don't know if it's a pinched nerve but I truly feel it is a nerve problem. I've had a bad back for years so I think it's originating in my lower back. I have no money to have the necessary work done at the doctors. I have no no job. I take prednisone to stop this acute pain which can last for 30 seconds to well over a minute. I went to the ER when it got so bad. I noticed after I was stretching my lower back was when I had the worst pain. When I bend over for periods of time is when I notice the pain. I was checked for diebetes which I don't have. They x rayed that foot and nothing was wrong. I think an MRI OF this would help to find the problem. Anyway I still suffer from this painful condition and don't know the cause yet.

Even though your pains are in your toes, the fact that this is worsened when you are stretching and bending your back would suggest that you look at your back as the source of your problem and not so much your feet.

I will continue with my procedures they gave me to do at home, so that I will gain more feeling. I have been very pleased with the staff that take the time to talk to you often to get feed back on your progress, answer any questions that you have. All of the staff, from the front desk, the doctors and the persons that do the treatment, make you feel special and are very interested in your well being

Electric shocks in toes and feet
by: Ida Harper

Since 2010, I have been experiencing this condition. I have tried many things, mostly topical to alleviate the pain. I recently saw on Dr. Oz's show this treatement thru Optimal Health
(Dr. Straw)for nuropathy, I have started the treatment program and much to my suprise I am getting great resuts. I have gotten the shocking pain, but It is very mild and does not last long. However, this is just my third week of the treatment. The nuropathy also has affected my balance, and I did not have any feeling in the bottom of both feet. I now notice my balance getting better and I am starting to regain the feeling in my feet. I am committed to completimg this treatmemt, because in this short time I am seeing results

Electric shock in toes
by: Anonymous

I am experiencing a electric shock in my 2nd toe on the left foot.It lasts seconds but it is bad enough it makes me scream out in pain.I have had the ankle fractured in 2006 & had surgery, I have screws & Pins still in ankle. I suffer from Rhuematoid arthritis& & fibro.I take hydroco, 500mg, 3 times a day for the arthritis& I take 15 mg of prednisone every day. Will these meds aggravate the situation?I have also had the other ankle fractured,it also has hardware and was badly dislocated when the fracture occured. Due to blood pressure issues I have not had my ankles fused which was my only option. These ankles stay swollen, and some of the screws in the foot w/ the shock pain have come out& moved, as seen on xrays,.I am wondering could the screws be causing nerve pain?? I will be making a appointment w. doctor next week, but wonder is this a emergency situation. Just experienced a shock, and it was a bad one only lasted a second, in the last three days have had a total of 6 shocks in foot.Wonder if hot or cold compress will help or aggravate?

Shake it up to disolve the pepper, as soon as the shock start, I apply this solutuion to the area with Qtips. In a couple of minutes the shocks disapear. Help: Electric shocks in toes when cutting!!!
by: whyme

I have had jerking movements to the limbs quite badly and already have several mobility problems. During an MRI scan, for the 1st time in a medical profession, my limbs started jerking.

It all started with a shock like pain in my left leg, then after about 5 minutes, it started all the limbs jerking one by one.... don't know what will show up in the MRI or whether the jerking will have had any affect at all.

My problem now is that at the weekend, my husband tried to cut my toenails on my left foot but gave up because I kept getting like electric shocks when he touched the toes.

Any idea what is happening?

electrical shocks to foot
by: Anonymous

I have been suffering from what I describe as electrical shocks to my foot. These "episodes" can occur up to every five minutes and last between 15 - 60 seconds. I have been to every doctor imaginable and have had MRI's, nerve tests, blood work, x-rays and NO one has a clue as to what could be causing this pain as the test results always come back negative. I have been dealing with this for almost a year, when it's at it's worst, I cannot function, can't work, drive or sleep. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

Dear Dr. Mitnick, The orthotics arrived four days ago and I slipped them into my shoes immediately. I was skeptical as to the usefulness of the item, they really didn't look very exotic. I have to say though, after using them for just four days, I have experienced grand relief from my foot pain. Even the very first day, I was able to do a lot of work while on my feet with at least a 75% reduction of pain. It has only gotten better every day, and I go nowhere without my shoes with the orthotics. I had been experiencing extreme heel and sole pain for about six months and had to take extended breaks off my feet many times a day as well as regular doses of Ibuprofen. Since getting the orthotics, my life has returned to normal and I feel good again. Just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation for a very effective item, I had no idea what a change this item could affect.
